Why would it be too close to core in selecting either Tufaze or D’banj as the winner of Africa’s International act category of just concluded BET awards? This is the question on the lips of the critics, who believe the Nigerian hip-hop music ambassadors, should not have shared one award.
It’s no longer news that Tufaze and D’banj were the two winners of one of BET's annual awards that took place at Shrine Auditorium Los Angeles, U.S, last Sunday June 26, but the buzzes generated by the tie of D’banj and Tufaze in the category that also has Fally Ipupa (DR Congo), Angelique Kidjo (Benin), Tear Gas (South Africa) and D-Black (Ghana) has put the credibility of the award category in doubt.
Apart from the gist making the rounds that there is no basis for the tie in the category, which some people believe favours Angelique Kidjo and Tufaze, “Why only Nigeria has two nominees, And why can’t they tie Riana and Beyonce in Best Female R’n’ B Artiste category,” Asked a music enthusiast.
Although, this year edition of BET Awards also saw Jaden Smith and Willow Smith tie in Young Star Award category, the criteria used in selecting Africa’s International act, is a puzzle which music buffs would love to unravel. Or is BET Award now a case of who pays the piper dictates the tune? And to be sincere who do you think is Nigerian Africa’s International act, D’banj or Tufaze?
