Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria goes to Edo

It was formerly known as Miss Universe and it started in 1983. But, since its re-christening in 1986, the beauty pageant known as Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) has been growing from strength to strength. Not only has it produced 27 beauty queens but Agbeni Darego, winner of the 2001 edition, broke the record when she emerged the first black belle from Africa to be crowned Miss World.
The beauty pageant which was Created by the Silverbird Group, has as some of its past winners Lynda Chuba Ikpeazu (1986), Omasan Buwa (1987), Regina Askia (1989), Nike Oshinowo-Soleye (1991), Emma Komlosy( 1996/97) ,  Maltida Kerry (2000), Anita Uwagbale (2004), Munachi Abii (2007) among others.

How time flies? Although, the pageant was not held in 1995, in commemoration of its 25 years anniversary, MBGN which has Sylvia Nduka as the reigning queen, will be leaving Lagos for the second time. This year’s edition will be hosted by the Edo State Government.
It would be recalled that the first time MBGN would leave Lagos was in 2008, when it was held in Imo State. However, the silver jubilee edition of MBGN is to hold in Benin City, Edo State on Saturday May 5, 2012.

Apart from the grand plans to have a superlative  event in Edo State, La Casera, one of the sponsors of MBGN for the past six years will be celebrating 10 years of its product in the market, and five years of sponsoring Miss La Casera of MBGN.

The marketing manager of La Casera, Mr. Abraham Benson, said: “This is the sixth year we have been partnering with MBGN and it would be the fifth Miss La Casera this year.  The sum of a million naira and a brand new car will be given to the new queen as we celebrate the 10 years anniversary of the product in Nigeria.” While Edo State Government has confirmed its preparedness for MBGN 2012, the state is hopeful of producing the next Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria. According to Group Vice president of Silverbird Group, Guy Murray Bruce, the event which will parade top Nigerian music stars, will also have in attendance some of the past queens.

Bruce also announced the return of Jeffrey Daniel of Shalamar fame, for MBGN 2012.  The singer, songwriter cum choreographer will be tutoring the aspiring beauty queens on some of the dance moves he’s known for.
