Fela’s family may sue Jay-Z

If what the tale bearers are drumming into our hearing  were anything to go by, world famous American rapper, Jay- Z may soon find himself docked for copyright infringement.
Although, ‘Gentleman’, Jay- Z’s new song produced by DJ Teffler that featured Lil’ Wayne is a remix of one of his singles released years ago, it’s been rumoured that that he did not secure permission before sampling the beat of late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. Apart from having same title, Jay-Z and Lil’ Wayne laced lyrics to the instrumental of Fela’s ‘Gentleman’, though, some believe it’s DJ Teffler’s output.
As all the efforts to get one of the scions of the late legend’s view on the issue proved abortive, a source quipped that there is a probability of a memorandum of understanding being signed by Jay-Z, DJ Teffler and Kuti’s family. “I can’t say if Jay-Z or DJ Teffler got any permission but so far Fela, is being credited, I don’t foresee any court case. Mind you, Fela is a global product,” a U.S based music promoter said.
