Seun Kuti revives Kalakuta Republic

It’s now 35 years ago that Kalakuta Republic, the communal compound that housed the family, band members, and recording studio of late Afro beat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, was razed. It would be recalled that on February 18, 1977, about 1,000 soldiers unleashed sorrow, tears and blood on the Kalakuta Republic located at 14 Agege Motor Road, Idi-Oro, Mushin, Lagos. It was razed down and Fela’s mother was reportedly thrown out of one of the windows.
However, to commemorate the ugly incident that has evidently found itself in the country’s book of history, Seun Anikulapo Kuti and Fela’s Egypt 80 Band  performed live yesterday, February 25, at the New Africa Shrine.
The show was very exciting with heavy pulsating Afro Beat vibes from Seun Kuit’s second album titled “From Africa with Fury” RISE plus some Fela’s underground repertoire amid lots of yabis and political commentaries on the state of the Nation from Seun.
